How To Insert Text in Microsoft Word with the Text Box
When a New Document is created in Microsoft Word, you will see a Flashing Cursor where you can start typing your Text.However, for design purposes, it is much easier to use the following method so that Text can be moved around the page easily.
On the Ribbon, click the Insert Tab.
Select Text Box from the Text Group.
This will open a Drop Down Menu with preformatted options for different styles of Text Boxes.
For your own customized Text Box select Draw Text Box from the bottom of this window.
The Cursor changes to a large Plus Sign. Hold dow your left mouse button, drag and release to insert the Text Box.
You will notice the Flashing Cursor, that let's you know you can start typing your Text.
There are over 40 Preformatted Text Box Styles for you to choose from.
They come in varying Sizes, Positions, Colors, Styles, and Text Formatting.
These are just a few examples.
Once you select one of these Text Boxes from the Drop Down Menu, the Text Box will appear on the page.
How To Set Text Direction within a Table Cell in Microsoft Word 2013
For the purpose of this How To, we can use a 2 Column 1 Row Table. You will see the Text Direction in the Alignment Group of the Table Tools Layout Tab.No drop down menu appears. Instead, each time you click this Icon, the Text will cycle through the 3 different Text Direction Options of Rotate 90 Degrees, Rotate 270 Degrees or Horizontal.
You can also use the Alignment Icons of the Alignment Group to change the Location of the Text within the Cell.Align Top Left - Aligns Text to the Top Left corner of the Cell.
Align Top Center - Center Text and Align it to the Top of the Cell.
Align Top Right - Align Text to the Top Right corner of the Cell.
Align Center Left - Center Text Vertically and Align it to the Left Side of the Cell.
Align Center - Center Text Horizontally and Vertically within the Cell.
Align Center Right - Center Text Vertically and Align it to the Right Side of the Cell.
Align Bottom Left - Align Text to the Bottom Left corner of the Cell.
Align Bottom Center - Center Text and Align it to the Bottom of the Cell.
Align Bottom Right - Align Text to the Bottom Right corner of the Cell.
So let's say we were working on Labels and we wanted to change the Direction of the Text.
Since the Text for this Label Template are in Table Cells, you can again use the Text Direction Icon from the Alignment Group of the Table Tools Layout Tab.

How To Set Text Direction within a Text Box in Microsoft Word 2013
To change your Text Direction, you must first Insert Text within a Text Box.Once this is done, with the Text Box selected, click the Text Direction Icon from the Text Group of the Drawing Tools Format Tab.
A drop down menu appears with various Text Direction settings.
Horizontal, as you may have guessed, sets the Text Direction of the Text Box along a Horizontal Line.Rotate all Text 90 Degrees rotates all of the Text within the Text Box 90 Degrees in a Clockwise Direction.
Rotate all Text 270 Degrees rotates all of the Text within the Text Box 270 Degrees in a Clockwise Direction.
Text Direction Options opens the Text Direction Text Box Window. It seems to give the same options as the drop down menu. You would select an Orientation and click OK.
You can also change the Text Direction of Word Art, the Text within inserted Shapes and the Text Direction of Table Cells.
